Blood Orange & Basil Wine Spritzer (Food Network)

Blood orange and basil smashed with a little sugar, then sparkling wine and blood orange Italian soda over ice. Champagne if you're celebrating; prosecco is just as good with all the other flavors.

2 segments blood orange
2 basil leaves
1 teaspoon sugar
5 oz sparkling wine (such as prosecco)
4 oz blood orange Italian soda

Instructions

1.
Add the blood orange segments, basil and sugar to the bottom of a glass. Using the bottom of a wooden spoon, smash the orange, basil and sugar together; this will help release the flavor of the basil.
2.
Add the sparkling wine, then the blood orange soda and stir to combine. Top up with ice. Garnish with a blood orange wheel and enjoy.
