Old Fashioned (A Couple Cooks)

The sugar-cube old fashioned: a cube muddled with bitters and a splash of water, then bourbon or rye over one large cube with an expressed orange peel.

Ingredients

Multiply

1 sugar cube (or 1 teaspoon sugar)
4 dashes aromatic bitters (Angostura)
1/2 teaspoon water
2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey

Instructions

1.
Put the sugar cube in a lowball glass with the bitters and water, and muddle and swirl until the sugar is mostly dissolved.
2.
Add the whiskey, swirl to combine, and add a large ice cube.
3.
Cut a 1-inch-wide strip of orange peel, squeeze it over the drink to release the oils, run it around the rim and drop it in. Add a cocktail cherry for extra sweetness, if you like.
