   Finely grate 1 teaspoon zest from a large lemon onto a small plate and rub it together with 1 tablespoon granulated sugar. Cut a wedge from the lemon, moisten the rim of a 6-ounce martini glass with it, and turn the inverted glass in the lemon sugar until the rim is coated.

   Peel a strip of zest from the lemon for the garnish, then juice the rest until you have 1 ounce.

   Add the lemon juice, vodka, orange liqueur and simple syrup to a shaker and fill it with ice. Shake hard until the outside of the shaker is frosty, about 20 seconds.

   Pour through a fine-mesh strainer into the martini glass.
